Round She Goes!

If I could choose a market to represent my quirky, vintage fashion stylings, it would definitely be Round She Goes. This fabulous mash-up of vintage and designer fashion comes complete with barista coffee and delicate noms, to satisfy even the hungriest of fashion appetites.

This multi-state, award-winning market is held in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, at appropriately groovy locations, usually four times a year. The quality of vendors is exceptionally high as market creator Emma Morris vets stallholders with a fine tooth comb.

Emma says “It's one of those things that's kind of an instinct. I read every application and I try and get even more information so I can get a sense of the quality of the stall holder. I try to hand pick all the best ones so we've got a really good selection.”

Emma says she created Round She Goes because she felt there wasn't a market for people like herself.

“I've always been a market goer and second-hand seller, and I started the market in Melbourne because I really felt there wasn't a market for people like me, who wear a little bit of vintage, a little bit of designer, my age but kind of broad in size. So I thought 'I'm going to start my own market', and it seemed to work because other people really liked it too.”

The success of Round She Goes is a testament to the fact that Emma was right and thousands of happy buyers now attend every market looking for that special piece.

“I think that people are maybe a little bit sick of retail. It's so much more fun to come to an event like Round She Goes and find a unique item that you don't pay a lot for, or that you do but you really, really love because it's one-of-a-kind. It's that kind of experience I think that people are looking for more and more.”

I would definitely have to agree. Round She Goes is one of those markets that I (and all of my vintage friends) really save the date for. Whatever your budget, you can always find really great, quality vintage pieces with that 'wow' factor. This time I found a pair of gorgeous 1940s, black velvet, wedge heels; an amazing 'as new' 1960s fuchsia dress; a 50s lace petticoat; a fabulous giant, rose hair clip by Bluebelle Vintage Designs and a stunning blue vintage Xenolite basket (perfect for keeping my hair flowers in!)

In addition to all of the fabulous vintage, there is also the designer clothing that's available as well. These days more and more collectors are happy to mix their vintage pieces with some fabulous modern fashion and that's where Round She Goes has the market covered. The market sells both second-hand, established, prestige designer labels, as well as emerging designers' wares. I have discovered a lot of vintage 'inspired' labels this way, like Doodad & Fandango (perspex jewellery) and Laurel & Hector (vintage inspired fashion - think Fran Fine meets Clueless meets 60s Go-Go).

In addition to the fabulous fashion, I am also very personally aware of the positive eco-benefits of shopping at a market like Round She Goes. Every piece that doesn't go to landfill, is a positive investment in the future of our planet. Save the world by buying fabulous vintage? Sounds good to me!

If you are planning a trip to Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide, it's definitely worth scheduling around Round She Goes.
